Brackish I’m using this to measure low salinity in brackish tanks and for salt ich treatments. One thing to remember….the directions say rinse Before and After….BUT when you rinse it in tap water, there are many drops of fresh water still in the instrument…if you dip it in tank water and take a measure, you will get a LOW reading….so dump that first sample after a minute or so…Then dip Another sample and you will have an accurate reading every time. This is a very good hydrometer for the money. Many buy expensive refractometers or resistive types which can also deceive you for a number of reasons.
aquarium testing Works every time but I agree to dump the first test to get rid of the fresh water and do a second test but I would do that with any hydrometer
Used for ocean testing We are involved in Marine Assessments in the Fiji Islands and we use this little device for on-site testing. Sometimes on the beach, sometimes on boat sometimes in a mangrove. It gives good enough results in the field to see whether furtehr lab testing should be carried out.A bit fragile for carrying about, but I don’t uppose that matters if you’re testing a fish tank in your home!
