A pH test kit costs around $5.00 by itself but is included in a Master Test Kit which can be purchased at Walmart.com for around $15.00, either the API FW Master Test Kit or the Tetratest-Laborette Master Test Kit, which then gives the fish keeper most of the tests they'll ever need. It should include kits to test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, as well as pH. You should also probably list a good book as well. While there are a number of good books available, I normally recommend the Baensch Aquarium Atlas, Volume 1 as a good book to have on hand.
